QR Codes. Next Big Thing From Japan?

January 19th, 2007

QR Code MarketingMichael Fiorella pointed me to an interesting article he wrote about QR Code Marketing.

What are QR Codes?
The image you see on the left is an example of a QR Code, a fairly new type of bar code that can hold more information than in the past, like alphanumeric characters and even Japanese text. As Fiorella writes, most japanese cell phones now come equipped with QR code readers that quickly scan using the phone’s camera lens.

QR codes are widely seen on posters and billboards in Japan, providing anyone with a cell phone immediate access to information on consumer prize campaigns and maps to find retail outlets. Other fields of usage include the fast food market, where brands save nutritional data on to a sandwich wrap, and, companies printing QR codes on business cards with more info about the person.

It will be interesting to see, when and how this will spread over Europe.

Unofficial Apple iPhone Details From Kevin Rose

December 4th, 2006

I just read on TechCrunch that Digg’s founder Kevin Rose has some good inside information on the upcoming iPhone.

According to Kevin there are two models coming up, 4 GB and 8 GB, priced at $249 and $449. No word on whether they’ll be shipping an unlocked version of the phone, but Kevin says Apple is adding both GSM and CDMA radios into the iPhone, making it truly carrier-independent. The device will have a slide out keyboard, a touch screen and two batteries (one for the MP3 player, one for the phone).

May 25th, 2006

eboy created this great illustration for a Fortune magazine article on the resurgence of internet companies. The Berlin-founded company also does futuristic posters of cities, pixel pictures for companies and publishes books with “Die Gestalten”. They are the popstars of pixel-based art so to speak

blummy - The Tool to end all Bookmarklets

October 23rd, 2005
blummy - Home of the blummlet

My friend Alex had a great idea: to get rid of all those bookmarklets one has in his/her toolbar: “add to delicious, add to newsgator, add to bloglines, blog this with wordpress, …”
You get the point.

blummy is a tool for quick access to your favorite web services via your bookmark toolbar.

It consists of small widgets, called blummlets, which make use of Javascript to provide rich functionality (such as bookmarklets). It works on almost every page on the web. Just click on it at your toolbar.

I designed the logo for him, did a little bit of CSS tweaking and added some bookmarklets.

Check it out at blummy.com

Pez Mp3 Player & another fantastic Invention

March 29th, 2005

Pez Mp3 Player
Under a recently granted licensing agreement with Pez Candy, a gadget design company Lincoln West Studios will soon begin selling MP3 players modeled after the big-headed plastic treat sleeves. It should be released in early Summer ‘05. The gadget will be built around a Samsung chip and will have 512MB capacity, as well as an LCD screen. The device will look exactly like a traditional Pez dispenser from at least two sides and will come in a variety of colors. Pezmp3.com

iPod Shuffle with Display (Fantasy)
iPod Shuffle with Display. A fantastical invention and analysation of the popular player. With Flash-Demo explaining the possible navigation structure. It would be cool to release this device although it cuts away some of iPod’s market share.
