The creation of one of the most popular cosmetics brands goes back to the year 1911 when German founder Oskar Troplowitz developed a skin cream with Eucerit, the first water-in-oil emulsifier.

He chose the name NIVEA which is derived from the latin word nivius, meaning snow-white. The use of the typical color blue with white typo was introduced in 1925 when Tropolowitz sought for a color that wasn't politically affected. During the 1930s, the company began to produce new products, such as suntan lotion, shaving cream, shampoo and facial toner.

Today the NIVEA brand encompasses facial care, hair care, shaving, bathing/shower, body care, baby care and sun care products. Sold in 150 countries, the products are trusted around the world. In fact, in many countries consumers are convinced that NIVEA is a local brand.
