Adolf Dassler was inspired by a single idea when he made his first shoes in 1920: provide every athlete with the best footwear for his respective discipline. The breakthrough came when Germany won the Soccer World Cup in 1954. The adidas name dates back to 1948, deriving from the first two syllables of Adi Dassler's first and last name. One year later the Three Stripes are registered as a trademark.
