Your Name On A Piece Of Toast

January 27th, 2007

Over and over again funny amazing what kind of ideas companies have. This time it is all about toasts and raising money for charity organisations like World Vision, Save the Children or others you can help decide on.

Your Name On A Piece Of Toast

It works the following way: you give YourNameOnToast some money and they write your desired name or web address on toast in order to put it on their website. Your toast will act as a link to your website and the more you pay for your toast, the higher it will appear in the listings.

The Ad Generator

January 22nd, 2007

Ad Generator The ad generator is a generative artwork that explores how advertising uses and manipulates language. Words and semantic structures from real corporate slogans are remixed and randomized to generate invented slogans. These slogans are then paired with related images from Flickr, thereby generating fake advertisements on the fly.

“By remixing corporate slogans, I intend to show how the language of advertising is both deeply meaningful, in that it represents real cultural values and desires, and yet utterly meaningless in that these ideas have no relationship to the products being sold. In using the Flickr images, the piece explores the relationship between language and image, and how meaning is constructed by the juxtaposition of the two.”

The ad generator was created by Alexis Lloyd as a component of an MFA thesis project in the Design and Technology department at Parsons The New School for Design.

QR Codes. Next Big Thing From Japan?

January 19th, 2007

QR Code MarketingMichael Fiorella pointed me to an interesting article he wrote about QR Code Marketing.

What are QR Codes?
The image you see on the left is an example of a QR Code, a fairly new type of bar code that can hold more information than in the past, like alphanumeric characters and even Japanese text. As Fiorella writes, most japanese cell phones now come equipped with QR code readers that quickly scan using the phone’s camera lens.

QR codes are widely seen on posters and billboards in Japan, providing anyone with a cell phone immediate access to information on consumer prize campaigns and maps to find retail outlets. Other fields of usage include the fast food market, where brands save nutritional data on to a sandwich wrap, and, companies printing QR codes on business cards with more info about the person.

It will be interesting to see, when and how this will spread over Europe.

Huge Database of Sports Logos

January 18th, 2007

I just spotted a massive database of sports logos where you can check out what the Boston Celtics brand looked like years ago, or check out the evolution of Cleveland Indians’ logo over time. Additionally it is interesting to note that some clubs have reintroduced their old logo few years after the rebranding, probably because they weren’t satisfied with the reception of the new one.

Intelligent Video-Advertising For Site Owners

January 5th, 2007

AdBrite InVideo AdBrite, a content ad network, has just soft launched its newest product: InVideo

With InVideo the company has created a video player similar to YouTube’s, which users can brand with their own logo and, if wanted, include AdBrite ads. The good thing: you get paid when other people watch your video and even better, you also get paid if somebody embeds it on their own site. Additionally, a click leads the watcher to your website. InVideo is still in private beta testing but you can sign up for an invitation on the about page.

Comments from users around the internet are pretty controversial. One argument is that it is now easier than ever to steal a video, push in some AdBrite ads and profit from it. I think it is true, nevertheless it is a great way to embed (your) videos on your website.
